Birmingham’s first flamenco festival landed at the newly re-opened Birmingham Town Hall in November 2007, presenting a passionate weekend of dance, music and voice, bringing flamenco affictionardos and music lovers from across the UK to the Birmingham for a fantastic weekend of flamenco.

Friday 9th November saw Pepa Molina and Company perform to near capacity crowds at the Town Hall in the opening performance of the festival.  Saturday 10th brought the UK premiere of ‘13 Rosas’ by Los Arrieritos to the city, scooping top awards in Spain and Europe for the profound and moving  performance inspired by the story of the tragic 13 RosasSpanish Civil War.  Finally, the closing night saw a collaboration between UK’s leading tango orchestra and acclaimed Latin vocalist, Guillermo Rozenthuler, coming face to face with our visiting tango and flamenco dance exponents, under the name Ultimo Tango Fusion.  A successful programme of dance and guitar workshops also ran throughout the weekend.

 

The TG CollectiveThe launch night for the festival brought Birmingham’s acclaimed gypsy, jazz and flamenco ensemble, The TG Collective, join forces with flamenco dancer Ana Garcia before a sell-out audience at Birmingham’s Glee Club.

 

 

The Town Hall - Birmingham

Town Hall, Birmingham Our festival is centred on the city’s historic Town Hall, re-opening in 2007 after a £30 million refit. With its state of the art facilities and acoustics, the Town Hall is a sumptuous setting for this celebration of Spain’s cultural heritage in Birmingham.   Located an easy five minutes walk from Birmingham New Street and Snow Hill stations, The Town Hall is the grand centrepiece of Birmingham’s beautiful Victoria Square.
