About

No DancingWELCOME

Flamenco-Birmingham presents contemporary local, national and international flamenco-inspired productions, dance, music and workshops in and around Birmingham, UK.

Our website also covers flamenco news and updates from around the country.

We produce and promote performances in the city throughout the year – occasional local Peñas (friendly flamenco gatherings), and larger scale productions from visiting international flamenco artists, companies and ensembles, often on the more contemporary edge of music and dance, rather than the stereotyped ‘viva l’espania’ frills and castanets!

In 2007, we produced Birmingham’s first Flamenco Festival – three days of performances and workshops at Birmingham’s newly restored 1000 seat Town Hall. Over the past few years, we have brought a number of wonderful artists to the city from Spain, including Jesus Fernandez, En Sus 13, Chanta la Mui, Pepa Molina and Los Arrieritos.

Most recently, Argentinian tango singer Jose Luis Barreto performed to a full-house at Birmingham’s CBSO Centre, with May 2010 bringing the return of  Madrid’s Chanta la Mui for two nights at Birmingham’s Town Hall as part of the biennial International Dance Festival Birmingham.

A weekly series of highly regarded flamenco dance classes and workshops, run by Ana Garcia, take place in Birmingham throughout the year.
