Saturday 2 – Sunday 3 – Monday 4 May’15 // Studio 1 – 132, Alcester Road, Moseley, Birmingham, B13 8EE
After the success of last year’s Flamenco Edition performances and workshops, we’re delighted that world famous Jesus Fernandez be joining fantastic Birmingham artist Ana Garcia for more flamenco; featuring taster classes for beginners, choreography and technique classes to help with expression and movement, and intermediate and advanced classes for more experienced participants. Get to grips with the intricate rhythms behind this most passionate of dances in a series of fantastic workshops for all levels. “Flamenco has captivated my heart like nothing else…flamenco makes me feel strong, artistic, graceful, elegant, stylish, sexy, and mysterious.” Saf (Past Flamenco Weekend attendee)
GUITAR WORKSHOP -
Sunday (4.30-6.00) & Monday (3.00-4.30) with Jesús Núñez (The company guitarist) £40 for the 2 days or £25 for 1 day. This course is designed for players with experience in the Flamenco style. For further information please contact Ana Garcia.
FLAMENCO LEVEL 1 Saturday  & Monday // 12.00m – 1.15pm // Sunday 1.30-2.45pm // £30 for the 3 days // With Ana Garcia A beginner’s class, open to anyone with little or no experience in flamenco dancing, this taster will teach you the basics of a flamenco routine and style over the course of the three sessions.
TECHNIQUE LEVEL 2 & 3 (dancers with no Flamenco experience are also welcome to this class) Saturday & Monday // 3pm – 4pm // Sunday // 4.30pm – 5.30pm // £45 // With Jesús Fernández LEVEL 2 CHOREOGRAPHY Saturday & Monday// 1.30pm – 2.45pm // Sunday  // 3pm – 4.15pm // £65 // With Jesús Fernández An elementary class designed for those who are familiar with the basics of flamenco dance (and have been learning the style for two years or more), you’ll work with Jesús on a new piece of dance that will be developed over the three days.
LEVEL 3 CHOREOGRAPHY Saturday & Monday // 4.15pm – 5.30pm // Sunday // 5.45pm – 6.45pm // £65 // With Jesús Fernández An intermediate/advanced level class for those who’ve been learning flamenco, and attending regular classes, for some time. Over the three days, you will work on a new piece of choreography led by Jesús.
Why ‘Technique’? We believe that just learning choreography is not enough to be able to improve our dancing – it’s also about having style and finesse to your moves. This class is designed to improve choreography and body technique (shoes are not necessary) and dancers from other disciplines are also welcome, specially contemporary dancers. Bookings will be allocated on a strictly first come, first served basis. All sessions are limited to 25 students and prices are for attendance of your chosen session(s) on all three days. If we have no spaces available at the time of booking, we can offer you a place on a reserve list or advise you about classes at a different level. If you have to withdraw from attending for any reason after you have made the booking with us, you must let us know immediately so we can re-allocate your place. If we’re unable to resell your place and you can’t find a replacement yourself, we will be unable to refund your booking fee. If you leave a class once the course has begun (for any reason) we will not refund your class fee.

Playing Next in Birmingham …

Pah!  Nothing in the diary!

Follow us on Twitter or hop on the Mailing List and we’ll let you know when something good is coming to town!

Town Hall/Symphony Hall in Birmingham occasionally programme touring flamenco artists … check them out at thsh.co.uk

Other UK Flamenco …

Often worth checking out the main London venues for major touring artists – The Barbican, King’s Place, Sadlers Wells and the South Bank/Festival Hall, as well as both the London Jazz Festival, who have recently programmed Paco de Lucia and Chick Corea over the last couple of years, and the IGF Guitar Festivals in London and further afield.

Regionally, check out the regular sessions in Bristol that are often run by the excellent guitarist Cuffy; in Warwickshire, you will often find another very fine guitarist, David Shepherd, performing in the area; in Leeds, visit leedspena.co.uk for the latest happenings, and in nearby Hebden Bridge, a new pena has started – visit hebdenbridgeflamenco.org.uk for info.

Phil Johnson’s fine programming at St George’s Bristol always brings an excellent and varied world/jazz programme, and The Sage in Gateshead can also be trusted to throw in some top-notch jazz and world based music every few weeks.  You can of course find a few flamenco goings-on most weeks in London via Google and the various companies and artists based in and around the capital.
